Wherein an overly-analytical girl of far too much imagination finds an outlet of just the right sort. (you never can tell with bees.)
ok...so I've never had a webpage (unless you count the assignment in "intro to the internet" back in my first year of college, to prove I knew basic html...which I've since forgotten with startling efficiency). I guess I never really felt the need for one-- everybody else has one, after all, so there's always an open forum somewhere. but over the years, I've cultivated one very guilty pleasure that in no way crosses over into my "real" life (I have to put that in quotes cuz I'm a cultural theorist, and cannot use the word in an unproblematic way): writing fanfic. I know, it's nothing so terrible, but I've never quite gotten over feeling embarrassed about it-- "serious" writers don't go in for that sort of thing. but it's been a truly wonderful outlet for me over the years; in truth, I started doing it when I was still a little kid (and already a bit of a dork): after I'd finish a book, if it was a book I liked, I had a really hard time letting go of the characters; I'd lie in bed and use my falling-asleep time to imagine different endings, or new scenarios, and just let the characters play in my head. then, when I got a little older and the internet came around, it became an ideal forum to find and create more cultural space for the queer community, when we were literally STARVING for images of ourselves in the mainstream media. that's less of a problem now, tho the battle's far from won...what can I say, I just like to read about girls in love. or at least, in lust... ;)
so, I thought I'd use this page as a space to post all my fanfic in one place. of course, the first stuff I wrote, was back on the old mac performa I had in high school (with a whopping 64 mb's of RAM) so that's long gone...I think my first story, called "rites of passage," was written for a dawson's creek fic page, called "Capeside Diaries," and it was also, I believe, the first ever slash story for the show (this was back in the first season, before the appearance of jack). I got a lot of flames for that! you'd think I was standing outside the maternity ward telling dead baby jokes. it just goes to show how far we've progressed as a society in the past decade or so...what used to be scandalous is now practically unremarkable. not that I personally have EVER been accused of being "unremarkable!"
